VOLUNTEERS

SPRINT honoured all our long-term volunteers at our recognition dinner this spring. Pictured here are the SPRINT volunteers who have shared their time and skills with our seniors for 15 years… and counting! Are you looking for volunteer opportunities in your community?

Helping at homeVolunteers are the foundation of many of our services. Our volunteers help SPRINT provide personalized, caring assistance to enhance the quality of life for our elderly neighbours.

We encourage you to contact us! You can send an email to r.tenhaaf@sprint-homecare.ca or call 416-481-6411 and ask for our Volunteer Coordinator. We warmly invite you to download our our application form (below) and email it to us.

Some of our essential programs such as Community Dining, Meals on Wheels and Friendly Visiting or Telephone Assurance simply couldn’t operate without our volunteers. We also need volunteers to help with administrative tasks in our head office.

Orientation and training

Accreditation Canada, an independent agency that measures the quality of care provided within the health care system, recently applauded the SPRINT volunteer department for the high quality of our program. All our volunteers receive an orientation and are invited to attend regular educational programs.

What type of people volunteer at SPRINT?

There is no ‘typical’ volunteer at SPRINT. Our volunteers are of all ages and all walks of life. Some of our volunteers are students completing community service hours. All of them are caring and compassionate people who help seniors stay in their own homes safely and independently as valued members of our communities.

Next steps?

Visiting at homePlease call our volunteer department today at (416) 481-0669, ext. 252, to discuss your interests. You will be asked to attend an orientation session.

All our volunteers are also asked to complete a police check after they agree to become a volunteer with SPRINT. This is standard policy for most social services agencies and a required practice for all our staff and volunteers who interact with clients.

You are invited to download our application form and email it to r.tenhaaf@sprint-homecare.ca . We will be in contact within several days.

Volunteering Opportunities at SPRINT

Many of SPRINT’s services and programs depend on the commitment and dedication of our volunteers. Come, join our team of volunteers and serve the seniors in our community! Depending on your availability and choice, you can get involved in one or more of the following activities and help us:

Deliver ‘Meals on Wheels’: A lunch-time program starting at Sunnybrook hospital, Monday through Saturday. You will do one route, once a week.
Be a Friendly Visitor: Volunteer to visit an isolated senior in his or her own home, socialize and be a friend. A very flexible schedule.
Security Check: Make a phone call to a senior on a regular basis to ensure that everything is well. Become a phone friend!
Adult Day Program Assistant: Share your talents and skills such as painting, playing a musical instrument, singing along, conducting a discussion group, etc. with our senior clients at our Adult Day/Evening or Saturday Programs.
Community Dining Assistant: Assist in serving warm, nourishing meals to seniors in a community setting and socialize with them. Usually, the program is offered at lunch time, but dinner programs are also offered a couple of times a month.
Driver: Become a volunteer driver to take clients to their appointments and shopping trips. The clients may need help in getting in and out of the vehicle and you may need to escort them to their appointments.
Assist at Dementia Care Residences: As a volunteer, you can assist in engaging residents in various activities such as board games, gardening, discussion groups, etc. You may also help in serving afternoon tea and snacks.

Information sessions are held for prospective volunteers on a regular basis. Contact our volunteer department for upcoming dates and more information. Please call 416-481-0669, ext. 252.
