Information for seniors and caregivers

SPRINT works closely with many organizations within Toronto and beyond

Anne Johnston Health Centre – The SPRINT Adult Day Program is located at Eglinton and Yonge Streets in Toronto.
Accreditation Canada. This independent organization guides health care providers such as SPRINT to reach standards of excellence by thoroughly assessing all services and programs provided by the organization. Accreditation Canada's programs and guidance have been helping organizations strive for excellence for more than 50 years.
Cedarhurst home and Ewart Angus Home. SPRINT provides services at these two dementia care residences.
Community Care Access Centres - CCACs are local organizations that can help you access government-funded home care services and long-term care homes. Please check information on this website about SPRINT in-home services. Some clients who require personal care may be eligible for their services to be covered by their Community Care Access Centre.
Local Health Integration Networks - SPRINT receives funding from the Toronto Central LHIN, an agency of the province of Ontario.
Ontario Community Support Association – SPRINT is a member of this umbrella organization representing the not-for-profit community agencies that provide support services for people who need help to function independently because of a disability, illness or limitations due to aging. These services help people live at home and keep connected with the community.
Ministry of Health and Long-term Care - Provides information on a wide range of health services available to Ontarians - from health insurance, emergency services, community and public health, long-term care and seniors' health. SAINTS - Student Assistance in North Toronto for Seniors – SPRINT, at times, refers clients to this agency when clients look for some help with tasks such as snow shoveling or other odd jobs around the house.
Toronto Community Housing. SPRINT provides support services at Moore Place and Montgomery Place. Our community dining events and health and wellness clubs are offer meeting at a number of TCH buildings.

TorontoRide.ca provides assisted transportation to eligible seniors and people with disabilities across the city of Toronto. SPRINT is a member agency of Toronto Ride.

Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care - Baycrest provides a spectrum of health care services to older adults including healthy living programs, assessments, treatment, care, education and information, support and caregiver programs. Baycrest is an internationally renowned academic health sciences centre affiliated with the University of Toronto and conducts basic and applied research with a strong focus on brain functioning and mental health.
Canada Pension Plan & Old Age Security - A guide to Canada's income programs - Old Age Security and Canada Pension Plan - for seniors.
Canadian Association of Gerontology - A national, multidisciplinary scientific and educational association established to provide leadership in matters related to the aging population.
Canadian Cancer Society - Includes information about cancer - warning signs, detection and treatment, research and results. Also provides links to local societies, how to donate and volunteer.
Canadian Caregiver Coalition -This bilingual alliance is composed of individuals, groups and organizations. Their mission is to influence policy and promote the needs of caregivers across the country.
Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) - The on-line resource for people with and affected by diabetes and for health care professionals treating those affected by the disorder. The CDA, with 170 branches, is the largest non-governmental supporter of diabetes research, education and advocacy.
Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association - Bilingual resource offers information for caregivers in a palliative care situation.
Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) - An independent, national, not-for-profit organization working to improve the health of Canadians and the health care system by providing quality, reliable and timely health information.
Canadian Society of Telehealth -Focuses on improvement of the health and health care of individuals and communities.
Canadian Virtual Hospice - The Canadian Virtual Hospice is an interactive network for people dealing with life-threatening illness and loss.
Care Guide Online - Ontario's guide to seniors' housing and health care services including retirement homes, nursing homes, home health care, adult lifestyle retirement communities, supportive housing and palliative hospice care.
Caregiver Network, Inc. - A comprehensive resource centre created to help caregivers of the elderly and ill. Includes access to personal assistance and support groups.
Caregiver Support Project, The - A guide to a 5-part video series for caregivers by Dr. Geila Bar-David, gerontologist and founder of the Caregivers' Association of Ontario, whose mother suffered from Alzheimer's Disease.

Click-Into Caregivers - A interactive web site designed specifically for caregivers which includes a discussion board for caregivers to "chat" with other caregivers, an "Ask the Expert" section where a variety of professionals will be available to answer questions, and an On-line Store and Marketplace for visitors to purchase products and services specific to their needs. This web site was designed by the Don Mills Foundation for Senior Citizens, with funding provided by the Trillium Foundation.
Concerned Friends of Ontario Citizens in Care Facilities - A non-profit corporation and registered charity dedicated to reform of the long-term care system and improvement of quality of life for residents.
Family Caregivers Network Society - Purchase a 160-page practical guide, Resource Guide for Family Caregivers, developed to help caregivers make informed decisions.
Gentlecare - Prosthetic Life Care System - Resource for families and professional care of dementia and Alzheimer's sufferers. Read about the publication and order with online form.
Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada - Dedicated to further the study of prevention and reduction of disability and death from heart disease and stroke - the number one cause of death for women - through research, education and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
Ontario Association of Non-Profit Homes and Services for Seniors - A provincial membership-based organization that has represented not-for-profit providers of long-term care, services and housing for seniors for over 85 years. Includes links to a wide variety of services for seniors.
Parkinson Society Canada - A not-for-profit national, charitable organization whose chief mission is to find the cause and cure for Parkinson's Disease.
Regional Geriatric Program of Toronto (affiliated with the University of Toronto) - An academically-focused alliance of providers of specialized geriatric services, leading the way in service, teaching, research and advocacy. The program promotes and provides a comprehensive system of care for frail seniors, including information for consumers, professionals and educational resources.
